Teaching to The Test

Clay Conrad at Jurygeek posts about how the No Child Left Behind Act may be blunting efforts to promote education about the jury system.

"Teaching to the Test" is blamed. But perhaps the bigger issue is what does the test, test? Understanding how our government works requires knowledge about how the three branches of government work. And knowledge about how the judicial branch works requires knowledge about how juries work. Is this knowledge being tested? If they are not, than the test writers need to be held to account, not the teachers. On the importance of linking testing and teaching and see this Carnegie Foundation comment.
